Join us on Monday, June 17th
at 5:30 p.m. at the Old Town Public Library, for a gardening workshop with
guest speaker, Peter Cowin. Also known
as The Bee Whisperer, Peter is a Hampden beekeeper with more than 100 hives,
has kept bees since he was 11 years old, and is now President of Penobscot
County Beekeepers Association. Peter also operates a beekeeping supply store in
Hampden, Maine (236 Main Road South) selling beekeeping equipment and hundreds
of honeybee colonies each year. He sells honey and beeswax produced by his bees
and uses them to make lip balms, hand creams and other products. He is often
called out to collect honeybee swarms and to remove honeybee colonies that have
made their homes in places like walls of houses. Peter teaches beekeeping for beginners and
intermediate beekeeping in Adult Education classes in many towns, with more
than 200 students each year. Peter can
be reached at 207-299-6848, or via his website: www.beewhisperer.us or via “The
Bee Whisperer” on Facebook.
This is sure
to be a very interesting workshop, so make sure you save the date! All
of the gardening workshops are free and open to participants of all ages. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more
about gardening, ask questions of the experts, socialize with fellow gardeners,
borrow library gardening materials, receive take-away resources, and enjoy
light refreshments. For further details, contact the library at 827-3972, or
