Participate in our summer reading program from June 24th to August 24th and discover new adventures through reading! Here are some of the exciting things you can expect:

o    Raffle Prizes: Participate in the program by reading books and attending events to be entered into a raffle. The more you read and participate, the greater your chances of winning!

 Kayak Rentals

Old Town Public Library cardholders who are 18 and older can rent a kayak from late May to early October!

  • One kayak, paddle, and life vest per account.
  • You must load and transport. At this time, we have straps available for only 1 kayak. Please request them while reserving the kayak.
  • Pick-up and drop-off need to be scheduled in advance to ensure we have staff available to unlock the kayaks and retrieve the paddle and life vest.
  • Pick-up and drop-off times are only available Monday-Friday from 10:00-4:00.
  • Loan period is one week.
  • $5 per day late fee, no renewals.

Library staff do not provide in-depth instruction in how to use the gear. We have provided a few video resources below to get you started:

We'll have two scheduled movie showings this summer at the library! Join us on June 25th to watch Moana and July 23rd to watch The Lorax! Both movies will start at 2:00 and there will be popcorn and popsicles available while supplies last.

 Read, Renew, Repeat Tuesday Crafternoons

Join us every other Tuesday this Summer for our exciting "Read, Renew, Repeat Crafternoon!" Each session will feature a unique material, offering creative ways to breathe new life into old items. No registration is required, and all ages are welcome. Come and unleash your creativity with us!

Storytime at Hirundo

 Nature Tales: Storytime at Hirundo

Join us for an outdoor story time at the beautiful Hirundo Wildlife Refuge! This special event is designed for children ages 2 to 7 and promises an exciting hour filled with books, songs, and crafts. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 3rd, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. The exact location within the refuge will be announced soon.

Due to limited space, registration is required to secure your spot. Don't miss this opportunity for your little ones to enjoy nature while engaging in fun and educational activities!

A Hard Path to Wilderness

 Tim Caverly's "Hard Path to Wilderness" Presentation

Join us on Tuesday, August 6th at 4:00 PM downstairs at the Old Town Public Library for an engaging exploration of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. This presentation will take you on a journey from Allagash Lake to Allagash Falls, delving into the rich history and current challenges this pristine area faces due to increased human development. Learn about the proposed measures aimed at preserving its wilderness character and the efforts to ensure the Bureau of Parks and Lands upholds its legal mandates to protect this natural treasure.

Summer Children's Programs

 Children's Special Lunch Events

Summer sessions For Brown Bag Lunch Program - ** Registration Required **
  • For PreK - 2nd grade, 6 weeks on Tuesdays from 11:30am - 1:30pm. Children will bring a lunch to eat while listening to stories. There will be a simple craft project to complete and bring home, as well as circle time with songs and movement. They will also have time upstairs to check out books to bring home. A library card in good standing is required in order to take books home.
  • For 3rd - 6th grade, 6 weeks on Wednesdays from 11:30am to 2:00 pm. This program will be a continuation of our after school library program. Children will bring their lunch to eat while listening to stories. There will be crafts, group games and team challenges. They will have also have time upstairs to check out books to bring home. A library card in good standing is required in order to take books home.
